Volunteering at Indy Junction 2022

In order for the convention to be a success, we rely on volunteers to help with the event. While we can't provide compensation or free admission to volunteers, helping with the event does count towards the NMRA Association Volunteer achievement certificate. This is considered a regional event, which means if you volunteer one day at Indy Junction 2022 you will get 1TU as if you served a whole month on a committee! Please visit the Association Volunteer achievement page for more details.

We need friendly faces who are willing to help make the event successful and enjoyable for everyone. Just committing any two hours during the convention will make sure we are fully staffed.

If you're interested in volunteering for the event, please contact us with your availability and skill set.

We need help with registration:

  • Wednesday: 7am-9pm
  • Thursday: 11am-9pm
  • Friday: 7am-4pm
  • Saturday: 7am - 1pm

I need two people per timeslot. This is a GREAT chance for spouses, friends, etc to pair up and enjoy working together. You are checking in attendees and getting their packets to them.

Rail Yard Sale

  • Thursday: 1pm-8pm
  • Friday: 2pm-5pm

This works in the same area as registration. You will be taking money for purchases at the Rail Yard Sale. I need two volunteers per hour so this is another great chance to partner up with a friend! This spot involves minimal change making as all sales are rounded up to the nearest dollar.

Clinic Support

Wednesday- Saturday

  • 9-11:30 am
  • 1-5 pm
  • 6:30-10:15pm

I need two volunteers per hour. Yet another chance to pair up and serve! This is one of the easiest gigs on the list. Prior to the next clinic starting you will change room signs to the next clinic and then serve as support as needed which should be next to nothing. Change the sign, help any presenter to get to the correct room for their clinic, pick a clinic to watch or grab a cup of coffee and enjoy while being ready if needed for a problem.  Time between clinics is 30 minutes.

Clinic Tech Support

  • 10:30-11:30am
  • 6:30 - 10:15pm

  • 1-5 pm
  • 6:30-10:15pm

  • 1-5 pm
  • 6:30-10:15pm

  • 9-11:30 am
  • 1-5 pm
  • 6:30-10:15pm

Are you a bit of a techie? Then this is a great volunteer spot for you. The projectors for the clinics are equipped to play power point shows by just plugging a flash drive into the projector. We expect minimal issues for presenters but if you have ever worked in the IT field you know what is expected is not what happens sometimes so we need a couple of people ready to jump in and help.

I can use two people in each slot. This will likely be a very boring job. It may be a job where both techs can work together but two problems at once would require working individually.

Train show Ticket Sales

  • Friday: 5pm-9pm
  • Saturday: 10am-6pm
  • Sunday: 10am-3pm

I need two volunteers per hour. This job involves taking money for train show attendees. This will be dealing with non-NMRA member attendees for the train show.

Train Show Support

  • Friday: 5pm-9pm
  • Saturday: 10am-6pm
  • Sunday 10am-3pm

I need one volunteer per hour. This is a general support position. You might help watch a vendor booth for a bathroom or lunch break, assist with attendee questions, etc. This is an all around support position that will likely provide a lot of time for your own shopping time as well.

Contest Room

Entry Registration

  • Wednesday:  1-6pm, 7-10pm
  • Thursday: 8:30am-5pm, 7pm-10pm
  • Friday: 8:30am-5pm, 7pm-10pm

I need one volunteer per hour. This position checks in the contest entries. There will times where it is busy with multiple people checking in models and times where there is no one checking in models. This could be another friends opportunity with one serving as the check in person and the other volunteering for the position below.

Contest Room Monitor

  • Wednesday:  5-6pm, 7-10pm
  • Thursday: 8:30am-5pm, 7pm-10pm
  • Friday: 8:30am-5pm, 7pm-10pm
  • Saturday: 8:30am-?, 7pm -10pm, maybe earlier

I need one volunteer per hour. This volunteer role is a primarily a smiling face greeting people who come into the contest room. During busy times of contest entry check in they will assist the model registration person in performing registrations. If you are working a beginning or ending time slot you would lock/unlock the room. Lastly the volunteer would be making sure models aren't handled. No modeling knowledge is required and much time just sharing in the enjoyment of the fine modeling when others in the room talk to you about it. This position has some odd hours on Saturday. Judging starts at 8:30 and runs until it is done. When the judging is done the room will close. The awards ceremony starts at 7pm. After the awards are given the room will be open for people to pick up entries. Once the entries are collected (or 10pm) the room will be locked for the day.
